Have you ever looked at where you're at and how far you have to go and felt overwhelmed? Or not known where to start because there's SO MUCH to take on?

Eventually it becomes "too much" and you give in. In this episode, you're going to find out WHY that feeling or overwhelm comes up and why things get so overcomplicated so you can keep it from happening again. Let's go!

We've all been there — square one postpartum — not feeling like ourselves, wondering if we ever will, feeling slightly overwhelmed about how far we have to go, and frustrated it all feels so complicated.

So how do you fix that?

Let's start off with what NOT to do:

Don't take it all on at once — trying to go ALL IN with all the changes at once is not sustainable

I know it sounds idea and like you'll "get there faster" because you'll be making all of the changes you need to make, but that's why you fall off — you're doing too much at once and it's not sustainable.

Also don't set broad goals like “eating healthier” or “working out more.” Where do you start with that?

Eating healthy has a LOT of moving parts that might need to be addressed. So does working out more.

So What TO do:

You need to know your STARTING POINT!

What's a starting point?

Your journey has three parts, I like to call them PATHS because each one has a unique to you Starting Point, stepping stones, and timeline.

These three paths are nutrition, workouts, and routine. You EVENTUALLY master all 3, but you take them on one at a time, walk that path on a timeline that is YOUR timeline, and do it in an order that is perfect for YOU.

A Starting Point is the specific spot on that path YOU start based on YOUR current struggles, your schedule, and your goals.

Once you do identify YOURS, this journey doesn't feel overwhelming or complicated.

Take habits and CHANGE on in a sustainable way so you aren't opting for the quick fix route and, instead, are truly walking the LIFELONG path of healthy living… which ultimately leads to weight loss.

[00:00:00] Have you ever had that moment where you look at where you're at and how far you seemingly have to go and you feel overwhelmed, or have you thought about all the changes that you still have left to make in your habits and your nutrition and your routine and your workouts, and you just don't know where to start or have you had one of those moments, mid workouts where you're still not quite feeling like yourself yet?

And you're wondering if you'll ever get back to feeling strong and in shape. Again, maybe that last one is just me, but it's very easy to let your weight loss journey become too much and given, and then try to take it all on again, making too many changes at once and then given again. So today you're gonna find out why.

That happens because that up and down that roller coaster it's common, but it doesn't need to be normal. So let's talk about why that happens so you can address it and never let it happen again. Let's go.

Hey, mama. Welcome to the tough love mom podcast. I know you're here because [00:01:00] you're ready to get consistent and finally lose that weight. And you're not afraid of a little tough love, you know, what to do to lose weight. But following through on those things feels impossible. You wish you could just feel like you're strong, confident self again, and want to be a good example for your little ones, but you get thrown off by mom guilt and the unpredictability of motherhood.

It's frustrat. Taking on your journey. Postpartum is hard, but it's not impossible. Hey, I'm Liz and I've been where you are. I gained a lot of weight in my pregnancies, 90 pounds, and then 60 pounds. I needed to lose that weight to take control of my health. And honestly just wanted to feel like myself again with a sustainable approach to weight loss.

Simple consistency in working on my mindset. I lost it all in just over a year, both times. And I'm here to help you do the same. I believe that we have an ingrained ability to figure out what we need to do, make it happen and do it in a way that AWS the world, if you're ready to stop falling off the wagon, create solid routine and healthy [00:02:00] habits and finally feel your best inside and out all while enjoying D nuggets on your salad, you are in the right place.

We're about to transform your journey. My. Get pumped up. It is tough love times.

We've all been there, square one postpartum. Right? It's very humbling, but we don't feel like ourselves. We're wondering if we ever will again, and you're feeling slightly overwhelmed about how far you have left to go. You're frustrated. It feels so complicated. This is normal. This is something that a lot of moms face when they start their postpartum journey.

So how do you fix that? And we. Before I even get into that, we face it a lot throughout our journey as well. So it's okay. If you're like one year postpartum and sitting there going, it still feels overwhelming and complicated. And I don't know where to start and I feel like I've tried everything and it's just not working.

So how do you fix that? Let's get started off with what not to do first, so you know what to avoid first off. Don't take it on all at [00:03:00] once. We talk about this a lot here on the tough love mom podcast, but trying to go all in with everything at once, it sounds like a good idea. It's like, oh, that's gonna give me faster progress.

That's gonna make these changes happen faster. But no, it's not sustainable. I'm going to keep telling you that until it clicks, it is not sustainable to go all in with everything at the same time. Think about it going from eating, whatever, whenever to cold Turkey, hold 30, let's say yikes. Like that's a big shift to make.

I know it sounds like a good idea and that you're gonna get there faster because you'll be making all of these changes that you want to make at the same time, but that's why you fall. you're doing too much at once and it's not sustainable to give you a unique, you've never thought of this before perspective on this, this approach, trying to make too many changes at once is equivalent.

In my opinion, to opting for a quick fix, you might not be in that mindset of, oh, I'm just looking for a quick fix. I'm looking for something that's gonna get me instant results, [00:04:00] but really that's what it stems from. That's like the underlying mindset that's going on. When you're trying to do too many changes at once.

You just wanna get there faster and that's okay. That's human nature, right? We're not comfortable in where we're at. If we still wanna make changes, it's okay to want to change, but we need to approach it in a way that's sustainable. So the second thing, the first thing I want you to avoid is that taking it all on at once.

And the second thing to not do is to not set broad goals like eating healthier. What does that mean? I wanna work out more. What, like, what do those mean? How do you do that? That's too big. Where do you start with that? It's overwhelming, right? It's complicated. Right? When you think about eating healthier, what all does that entail a lot?

When you think about working out more, what does that even mean? How do you define it? How do you take it on one step at a time? That's why we feel overwhelmed. That's why this journey can get complicated. Cuz we're setting two. Broad of goals. Eating healthy has a lot of moving parts [00:05:00] that might need to be addressed like mindless, snacking, but not just mindless snacking overall, but nighttime, snacking mid-morning snacking in the afternoon nap time.

I finally have a break from all that's going on. So. , you know, that's another thing that we might be facing is that mindless snacking can be broken down into different things. We need to address too. We need to switch from processed foods to more whole foods. Like you said, there's so many moving parts. So what not to do, don't try to go all in with everything at the same time.

And don't set your, your goals, your approach to broad. If we take too broad, too generic of an approach, you won't know where to start. You'll try to just throw a spaghetti at the. You know, no pun intended and it's gonna get frustrating because nothing's gonna stick. So what to do, where do you start? How do you get this figured out?

So it's sustainable and actually becomes a lifestyle and it stops feeling overwhelming and complicated all the time. You need to know your starting point. What's a starting point. You ask. Okay, gotta back it up. [00:06:00] First. Your journey has three arms, or I like to call them paths because each one has a unique to you starting point and stepping stones and timelines.

So there's three paths that you eventually walk down during your journey. Those three paths are nutrition, workouts, and routine. All of these three things you eventually master overall. but each one you take on one at a time, you walk it on a timeline that's unique to you. And in an order, the, each, each one of those paths has different habits.

Or as I call them starting points and stepping stones that you take on in an order that is also unique to you because your life is different than my life is different than Cindy's. Life is different than everyone else's life. I don't know why I said Cindy, but that just came to mind. so everyone's life and obstacles and.

Circumstances and schedule and preferences and goals is different. So we have to take on these three paths, nutrition, workouts, and routine on a timeline. That's good [00:07:00] for you that works for your life and in an order that works for your life. You know, my story, I started off with working out four times a week.

That was my first stepping stone on my journey. The next one was five adding in one more day. The next one was taking on a program that wasn't just for trimester. A few months later is when I started focusing on nutrition and I moved to the next path after workouts. So you know that everyone is unique into which path they start on into which stepping stone they start or which starting point they start with and which stepping stone they take next.

so a starting point is just that specific spot on that one path that you start with based on your current struggles, your schedule and your goals. You might recognize this term because that's what we do on starting point sessions. We identify your starting point within one of the three paths. So this journey doesn't feel overwhelming and complicated anymore.

And what you'll be doing along the way is taking on habits and making changes in a sustainable way. So you aren't [00:08:00] opting for the quick fix. , but you're truly walking this lifelong path of healthy living, which ultimately leads to weight loss. Do you notice how, I didn't even talk about that the whole time.

I didn't say eat this or work out this way or this much, or do that much of a calorie deficit? No, because at the end of the day, It's a habits issue. It's a, we need to get our stuff in order and do it in a consistent way over time. So these habits stick, these habits become who we are and weight loss comes with that.

We don't need to focus on the weight loss. We need to focus on what we're doing. We need to focus on the process, not the outcome. when you get too fixated on the outcome, you're just gonna hop around to different stepping stones on different paths and different starting points. And you're gonna get frustrated and overwhelmed and it's gonna feel complicated.

That's why you need to know which path you're starting on, which starting point you need to take on first and over time. What stepping stone comes next. And then after that, and then after that, and then, oh, you know what, I'm ready to take on this next. Okay. So if you're stuck in that spot and you [00:09:00] need to identify your starting point, all the information is@thetoughloveofmom.com slash coaching.

What we will do in 45 minutes is identify your path. Your specific starting point on that path, either nutrition, workouts, or routine. And we'll get, you started with a simple habit. You'll be able to master in just a few weeks. And honestly, it's so simple and this sounds kind of silly, and this might be a hold up for you, but I promise it's what makes changes.

It's so simple. It feels almost like you should be doing more, but that's why you have me working with you. One-on-one to stay the course and stay focused on that one thing. Absolutely. One. Thing. So you can actually make change and make it who you are. This is how you make weight loss, sustainable, and doable, and avoid feeling overwhelmed and complicated about everything.

So let's get you on the books. There's limited spots every month. The tough love mom.com/coaching is where you wanna go to book your session with me so we can figure out your starting point. Okay.
