Hey there!

I’m Liz Henderson. Wife, mama, podcaster, encourager, and tough love enthusiast.

I have a hard time turning down any type of physical challenge, love a good cookie, and I live for the moment a mom realizes she is so much more capable than she realizes.

I’ve had a lot of those moments in my life — running my first 5 miles, an Ironman, childbirth — but the most impactful one came after gaining 90 pounds in my first pregnancy…

There was a time I wasn’t very healthy and felt far from confident…

Just a few years ago, I had preeclampsia and gained 90 pounds during my first pregnancy. I’ll never forget how not like myself I felt — inside and out.

After my son was born, I was ready to just feel like myself again and workout — something that usually made me feel strong and confident. 6 weeks postpartum, I was still holding onto 50 pounds and my body felt so weak doing the most simple postpartum workout moves.

Humbling is the best word I have for those early days and that feeling sticks with me to this day, even after losing 80 pounds by the time my son turned one.

My second pregnancy was healthy & uncomplicated, yet I still gained 60 pounds! And postpartum, I found myself in that same vulnerable spot. (You can almost see the disbelief in my eyes in the picture on the left.)

But, having gone through that journey once, I knew I could do it again. 14 months later, I’d lost all of that weight — totaling 150 lb of weight loss in 26 months.

Now don’t get me wrong, weight loss is great — we’re overall healthier not holding onto all of that weight from pregnancy — but what’s better?

the true confidence in our mom bod, wrinkly belly buttons and all

learning that perfection is NOT required for real results

experiencing the true power of consistency

belief in your ability to do hard things, even as a mom

becoming the example living a truly healthy life — inside and out — for those you love most

On days like today…

I’m up around 5 am to enjoy some silence or a workout alone. The rest of the day is spent slinging snacks & reffing wrestling matches in our living room, but being productive as all get out during nap time to encourage and equip mamas like you.

Nothing lights a fire under my butt quite like seeing a fellow mama realize how capable she is in taking control of her health, her mindset, and her life. Especially when she realizes it’s done in the seemingly insignificant choices over and over and over.

When living a healthy lifestyle and doing really hard things with confidence simply becomes “who you are” and no longer feels like something you’ll forever strive for and never reach, I’ve done my job.

Okay okay, but how did you get here…the “tough love mom?”

It was March 2021…

and God simply put “the tough love mom” on my heart.

“Okay…” I thought. “I feel convicted to follow through on whatever that means, but I’m not sure what it means, so, Lord, I’m going to shelf that for now and keep doing what you have me doing right now.”

All spring and summer, I stayed the course helping moms get disciplined, stay consistent, and lose weight through simple workouts and sustainable nutrition.

Fast-forward to the fall of 2021…

and I knew without a shadow of a doubt a podcast was the right next step — The Tough Love Mom Podcast.

I mean, ya girl listens to them all day every day — driving, doing laundry, on our walks — and often an Instagram caption just couldn’t capture all I needed to say! The pieces were all starting to come together.

The podcast was officially born into the world Dec. 13, 2021. “They” say winter is the worst time to launch a podcast. “They” say no one wants to listen to things related to health and habits and discipline during the holidays. “They” say that’s the worst plan ever.

But clearly “they” were wrong.

The Tough Love Mom Podcast reached #7 in the United States in Fitness in its first week and now sits in the top 2% of podcasts globally.

There is a need out there for moms to have a message of empowerment in their ability to be disciplined spoken over them. And I’m honored to be the one to do that.

At The Tough Love Mom Co, we are on a mission to help moms realize they are more capable than they think.

This journey is hard, but it’s not impossible. As moms, we have the engrained ability to figure things out and to do all that we do in a way that awes the world. And I’m here to help you tap into that ability.

Whether it’s losing weight through simple consistency so you can finally feeling healthy and confident or accomplishing something you doubted you could ever do, you don’t have to do this alone.

I’m here to empower you to walk through not just motherhood, but through life, with confidence. You were made for this. Get after it.
