Early Fall 2021 that God made it very clear it was time to MOVE on starting a podcast and 3 short months later, it was out in the world. So here we are, the 1 Year Anniversary!
It's easily been the best year of my life — for tons of reasons — but podcasting played a huge role in that. So come along with me as I remind you of this mission WE are on — all of us mamas, I'll share a quick recap of the most impactful things that have happened THROUGH this podcast, and what I'm MOST excited about is to let you in on the vision and mission God has on my heart to carry on through this podcast and the Tough Love Mom Co!
I launched this podcast to help moms get disciplined and stay consistent so they can lose weight.
Something you hear in the intro of every episode is this line:
“I believe that we have an engrained ability to figure out what we need to do, make it happen, and do it in a way that awes the world!”
Moms were made to do hard things and I feel very called to help you DO that so you can realize how capable you actually are.
So what's this mission WE as moms are on?
It’s bigger than us isn't it? It's setting the example for the next generation so they don't struggle with the things we've had to navigate — body image issues, emotional eating, inconsistency, and lifestyle diseases that are controllable with healthier habits… to name a few.
It's annoying to go through those ourselves, but the thought of our kids having to walk the same path — I can only speak for myself, but that's gut wrenching.
So while we have to fix our habits and get to a healthy weight for our bodies and make it all sustainable for ourselves first.
We want to be the healthy example for our kids because we KNOW we set the example… and it's been an honor to speak into that space for moms this past year.
The most impactful things that have happened THROUGH the podcast:
We've reached moms in 152 of 195 countries
Listeners in EVERY continent except Antartica
70K+ downloads
Top 2% of ALL podcasts globally
In the Top 200 Fitness Podcasts in the United States each of the past 52 weeks
Have sat in the Top 10 of Fitness Podcasts in the U.S. a handful of times
Almost 3 million minutes of the podcast have been listened to! That's almost 6 years worth of time
Personally what the past year has brought me is peace — I now work at a very sustainable pace which was not the case in the business I was doing prior to starting the Tough Love Mom Co and this podcast
I've gained an amazing sisterhood of fellow podcasters — I’m very equally yoked with them in values and mindset and the excitement and clarity that comes through each episode and that I continue to feel DAILY even a full year in is because of how they spur me on
But this is what I'm most excited for…
What's to come and how this podcast and the Tough Love Mom Co will serve YOU!
I realized I haven't been super clear EXACTLY what kind of mama should be listening and that's because this message and mission is for all moms — newly postpartum and 10+ years into motherhood.
We're on a mission to help moms realize how capable they are of doing HARD things.
That might mean to you losing the weight that you gained during pregnancy or it might look like simply getting consistent in your workouts again or dialing that nutrition back in… it might look like figuring out and sticking to a routine, building your journey back up ONE habit at a time, OR...
It might look like doing something really PHYSICALLY hard — like a running challenge, an obstacle course race, or doing a mental toughness challenge.
No matter what LEVEL "hard" you are facing right now in your journey — there's a place for you here.
The FREE Consistency Challenges will continue so you can build up one habit at a time.
You can do these pregnant, just after having a baby, 1 year after having a baby if that's the time you're ready to get back into your journey, whenever it is, it doesn't matter — it's accessible and it's for everyone.
There is Starting Point School
This is a self paced program that teaches you HOW to identify which ONE habit to start with first, how to stay consistent with it, and when to build on that so you can create sustainability in your health and fitness journey and not fall off the wagon again!
This is for the mom who is getting back into her journey and wants to do it right, wants to be consistent, and wants to lose weight the right way — by focusing on the process and not the outcome
In there you'll have accountability from myself and the moms doing it alongside you
And there are Starting Point Sessions for those wanting more high touch coaching from me personally
You’ll learn the same concepts taught in Starting Point School, the process is just a higher level of accountability and personalization as you work 1-on-1 with me
All of these — the Consistency Challenges, Starting Point School, and Starting Point Sessions — are the “gentle, you're just beginning” approach.
It's what MOST moms need as they step back into their journey postpartum — usually within 2 years after baby is born.
But I knew this wasn't it, because what comes next?
What do you do after mastering most of your habits, being consistent, and having living healthy just be who you are?
This is the point I've been at in my journey for well over a year now, and honestly it's THIS space that I personally thrive in — physically and mentally.
So I spent some time thinking… what do I do that helps me continue to progress, not on the scale because that’s not even my focus now, but in my overall health, my mindset, and my resilience?
It's hard things — 75 Hard, Live Hard, the Goggins 4x4x48, OCRs, getting into new workouts at new gyms — give me a physical challenge, or maybe it's more mental than physical — but in sum, it’s A CHALLENGE.
If we're not creating some resistance in our journey, it plateaus — just like a muscle does.
Muscles actually atrophy (lose mass and lose strength) if resistance isn't being placed on them. You go backwards when you're not being challenged anymore.
So if you're a mama who IS at that place of consistency and you're still hanging around — there's a lot of goodness to come both here for free on the podcast and for us to do together through the Tough Love Mom Co.
Because there's no physical or mental toughness challenges out there yet that are just for moms. And we need them. We WANT them.
Whether you're a mama just stepping back into your health and fitness journey and wanting to do it the simple and sustainable way OR you're a mama who needs a challenge — the Tough Love Mom Co is the place for you.
You're a Tough Love Mom — you're honest with yourself, you prioritize your health because you know it's bigger than you, you know you're not a victim to motherhood, it's hard yes, but you refuse to let that struggle define you, you refuse to compromise.
There are a lot of moms out there with our mindset, let's make sure they know about this movement, our mission as Tough Love Moms, and let's link arms and set a different standard within our families.
THANK YOU for being on this journey and this MISSION with me!
Yes, we're a year in here, but this is just beginning and how COOL that you're here for the start of it all. Love you, big time!
Are you ready to go from overwhelmed and stuck to disciplined and consistent in your journey?
Join Starting Point School and let's get you on track to your healthiest life!
FULL TRANSCRIPT
[00:00:00] One year ago today, this podcast was launched. It was early fall 2021, that God made it very clear to me that it was time to move on starting a podcast, and three short months later, December 13th, it was out in the world and it has easily been one of the. Best years of my life for tons of reasons, but podcasting has played a huge role in that.
So come along with me as I remind you of the mission that we're on here at the tough of MoCo. Um, not me, not just me alone, but all of us mamas, the mission that we're on. I'll share a quick recap of the most impactful things that have happened through this podcast and what I'm most excited. Is to let you in on the vision and the mission that God has on my heart to carry on through this podcast and the tough love mom co down the road in the future as we keep going.
So buckle up.
Hey Mama. Welcome to the [00:01:00] Tough Love Mom podcast. I know you're here because you're ready to get consistent and finally lose that weight. You're not afraid of a little tough love. You know what to do to lose weight, but following through on those things feels impossible. You wish you could just feel like your strong, confident self again and want to be a good example for your little ones, but you get thrown off by mom guilt and the unpredictability of motherhood.
It's frustrating. Taking on your journey postpartum is hard, but it's not. Im. Hey, I'm Liz, and I've been where you are. I gained a lot of weight in my pregnancies, 90 pounds and then 60 pounds. I needed to lose that weight to take control of my health, and honestly, just wanted to feel like myself again with the sustainable approach to weight loss.
Simple consistency in working on my mindset. I lost it all in just over a year, both. And I'm here to help you do the same. I believe that we have an ingrained ability to figure out what we need to do, make it happen, and do it in a way that AWS the world. If you're ready to [00:02:00] stop falling off the wagon, create solid, routine, and healthy habits, and finally feel your best inside and out, all while enjoying Dino nuggets on your salad, you are in the right place.
We're about to transform your journey. My. Get pumped up. It is tough love time. I launched this podcast to help moms get disciplined and stay consistent so they can lose weight. Just what it says on the podcast art that you see every time you've come to listen. Now, this is something you probably heard every single episode in the intro.
It's this line. I believe that we have an ingrained ability to figure out what we need to do, make it happen, and do it in a way that aws, the. I believe that moms were made to do hard things and that sentence right there sums it up. I really think that we're made to do things that are difficult. We're made to figure out how to make it happen.
And when the outside world looks in on us, it should inspire them. It should motivate other people. Not in like the [00:03:00] tangible motivation sense, but just say, wow. Like if she can do that, I can do that too. And I believe that wholeheartedly cuz I have looked to other women who have done hard things and gone, if they can do that, I can do this hard.
I just feel very called to help you do that in your own life so you can realize how capable that you actually are. Because it's in doing things that are mentally difficult, that are physically difficult, that we realize our real capabilities. And that's just, that's just where my heart is and that's really what I'm on a mission to do.
So what is this mission that we as moms are on? Well, it's bigger than us, isn't it? It's setting the example for the next generation. Our. So that they don't struggle with the things that we've had to navigate. Body image issues, emotional eating, inconsistency, lifestyle, diseases that are controllable with healthier habits.
All of these are things that, I mean, I can only speak for myself, but I would be heartbroken to see my [00:04:00] children struggle with the same things that I struggled with in my own life because I wasn't able to overcome them, face them, break down those walls and set a different. . Now, those things are annoying to go through for ourselves, like I said, but it's gut-wrenching , the thought of our kids having to walk that same exact path, gut-wrenching.
So while we gotta fix our own habits and get to a healthy weight for our bodies and make it do it all in a sustainable way for ourselves, first, we have to do that for ourselves first. The motivation behind it is because it's bigger. And we wanna be this healthy example for our kids because we know that we set the example.
We're probably, for most of us, who our kids are with the most and what they see is what they will do, right? Monkey see, monkey do. It's not monkey here or monkeys told monkey do. It's what they see. And we set that example and it has been an honor, let me just say, to speak into that space for moms [00:05:00] this past.
like an honor that you listen. Uh, the reach that this podcast has had blows my mind, and it is the, I, I never don't think about the weight of that responsibility, but it excites me because I know it's what God has called me to, and it is an honor to get to walk this and do it for you. And, . So let's talk quick about the most impactful things that have happened through this podcast, cuz this is what honestly blows my mind.
I'm recording this a couple days before the one year anniversary and up until this point, so just shy of a year, we've reached moms in 152 countries, y'all. . There is only 195 countries out there. That's over 78% of the world. 78% of the countries in the world we've reached. And there's, I'm sure you can, you know, think of in your head, off the top of your head, a couple countries that probably don't get any podcasts.
Uh, we have not reached those for obvious reasons, unfortunately. I pray one day [00:06:00] that that's a able for those citizens. But like, talk about reach and excitement, literally every continent at SEC, Antarctica, and I don't really know what the population's like. , I dunno. But we haven't reached the Antarctica yet.
But every other continent there's been listens, there's been downloads, um, over, well over 70,000 downloads at this point. Just shy of a year. We fall in the top 2% of all podcasts globally and here in the US every single week. Literally the last 52 weeks without a miss. We have been in the top 200 fitness podcasts in the United.
And there's like a lot in that category and we've sat in a handful of different times, um, have sat in the top 10 of all fitness podcasts in the United States, which is insane to me, but I believe it's because moms need this message. Moms want in on this mission. We know how important our health is, not for ourselves, but for our [00:07:00] kids.
And I'm just so passionate about that and I know you are too, which is why it's so cool that we get to walk this together. I did some quick math because y'all know that I love numbers and that's just how my brain works. And when I, you know, figure out the average length of the podcast episodes and the amount of downloads, that means that almost 3 million minutes, 3 million minutes of the podcast has been listened to.
What And when I, you know, I calculate that out cause I'm such a nerd about numbers. But that's almost six years worth of time of this mission of tough love because I care about, And want the best for you. I'm not gonna beat around the bush. We're just gonna get straight to the point. We're gonna talk about the hard things and we're gonna face the hard things together.
Six years worth of time. Listen, that's insane. And I'm honestly in awe that you would allow me to be a voice that speaks into your life. So thank you, . Um, personally, what this past year has brought me is so much. I [00:08:00] work, um, at a much more sustainable pace, which was not the case in the business I was doing prior to starting the Tough Love Mom Co.
And this podcast. Uh, I honestly feel like I can honor my kids and my family a thousand times better than I ever have. And it's cuz I'm not on social media that much. . And that's been huge for me. And it's not even something I set out to do this year. We'll step away from that. I honestly thought I was gonna step more into it.
I mean, look, here we are. I've stepped away. I have so much more peace. And it's truly because of this podcast, because you're here listening, and I thank you for that. Um, I've gained an amazing sisterhood of fellow podcasters. They have blessed me insanely. I don't even have words for it. Um, I feel like I've known them for.
And we're very equally yoked, um, in values and mindset. And that clarity and that excitement that you hear in each episode and that I honestly continue to feel daily, even a full year in, is because of how these women spur me on. So I have had [00:09:00] a handful of them on my podcast goal, listen to their episodes, go listen to their podcasts.
They're a phenomenal woman. And all in. They all speak to different audiences and all on different topics, but they have blessed me so much. Um, but what I'm most excited for is what's to come and how this podcast and the tough love mom co will serve you as a mom. Now I realize that I haven't been super clear exactly what kinds of moms should be listening because personally, I.
Over two years out from being, you know, fresh postpartum. But I walked through a long, hard season after both kids on my weight loss journey, and I do know that that in a sense, extreme weight loss that I went through, you know, 90 pounds after my, well, 80 pounds after my first, after gaining 90 pounds, and then 70 pounds after my second child.
That's, that's a lot. And. Having done it in a sustainable way. I know that's [00:10:00] encouraging and inspiring for you to hear, but I also felt like I was very called to speak to something else and to a different group of moms. And the reason I think I wasn't super clear about who exactly this was for is because this message and this mission is for all.
Whether you're fresh postpartum or you're five to 10 years postpartum, we are on a mission here to help moms realize how capable they are of doing hard things. Now, specifically here, that might look like losing 70, 80, 90 pounds that you gained during pregnancy. Like me, it might be that, okay, I need to get back to a healthy weight cause my.
Not my own right now, and I need to reclaim that. I need to get healthy again and feel healthy again. It might look like simply getting consistent in your workout. Or dialing your nutrition bracket in. Those are all hard things, depending on the season that you're in. The hard thing that I want to [00:11:00] encourage and empower you to do might look like figuring out and sticking to a routine, building your journey.
Back up one habit at a time. These are all, they sound simple and basic, but they can be really hard depending on the season that you're in. They were hard for me, my first year of postpartum both times, but doing something hard might also look like doing. physically really hard, like a running challenge or an obstacle course race, or a mental toughness challenge like I did 75 Hard, or this David Goggins like 48 mile run thing that I did last year.
All of these are very physically difficult and challenging and they're hard things, and I think moms are capable of that. And I wanna encourage you, so no matter what level of hard that you're facing right now in your journey, there is a place for you. There's the free consistency challenges that are going to become starting point, consistency challenges, and they'll stay free.
Don't worry. Um, but each month of the year, I'll just [00:12:00] choose a starting point from our starting point school, and you'll do it every day that month or aim to just so you can build up one habit at a time. You can do that pregnant. You can do these challenges just after having a baby one year after having a baby.
If it's the time that you're ready to get back into your. . It doesn't matter when it is, it's accessible and it's for everyone. Starting point, consistency. Challenges will still be going on next year. And they're for you. They're, they're, they're your starting point. They're free, they're accessible. One habit at a time.
Perfect place to start. Come December 29th. , there's going to be Starting Point School, which is a self-paced program that teaches you how to identify which one habit to start with first, how to stay consistent with it and when to build on that so you can create sustainability in your health and fitness journey and not fall off the wagon again.
Now this is for the mom who's getting back into her journey and wants to do it right. She wants to be consistent and wants to lose weight [00:13:00] the right way by focusing on the process. And not the outcome. It's not a scale focus. Here, we're fixing habits, and in there you're gonna have accountability for myself and the moms doing it alongside you.
And for those wanting more high-touch coaching from me personally, there will be some time set aside on my calendar each month also for starting point sessions for that one-on-one coaching through the starting point process. Now, both of these, the consistency challenges and starting point school or starting point sessions are the gentle.
your just beginning approach for those moms that are getting back into their journey or you know, they were lacking consistency and really struggling, adjusting to motherhood, and they're ready to get back into their health and fitness journey, no matter how far postpartum you are, that's your starting point in the tough love mom atmosphere and the tough love mom environment.
It's the consistency challenges, so you can get back on your feet, do it for free. Feel good about your sticking to something you're following. or if you really [00:14:00] wanna learn the process and dive in and have the accountability and actually have the equipping to walk this out sustainably and actually build your journey up one habit at a time, the right way.
Starting point school, this is for you if you're just at the beginning. It's what most moms need as they step back into their journey postpartum. And usually, for the most part, on average, it's within the first two years after your baby's born. But I knew this wasn't it. It wasn't everything because what comes next?
Like what do you do after you master that? After you're pretty consistent? You know, having. L, this living healthy, just be who you are. What do you do when you get to that point? You're like, yes, I do work out, you know, five, six days a week, whatever it is that you deem consistent for you. You feel good about your nutrition for the most part.
You can live a balanced life and not be, you know, controlled by stress and circumstances. What do you do when you're at that point and you're feeling confident in your journey? [00:15:00] Because that's the point I've been at in my journey for well over a year now, and honestly. It's this space that I personally thrive in physically and mentally where I'm consistent, I'm feeling good in my journey.
I've got my basic core habits down, and they're just kind of second nature. So I spent some time thinking, what do I do that helps me continue to progress, not on the scale, because for me it's not about weight loss now, but in my overall health, my mindset, my resilience, how am I progressing? What am I doing, tib.
to continue to feel challenged, continue to feel like I'm doing something challenging and hard, so I don't feel stagnant. I don't feel like I'm plateauing. I don't get bored at my journey and what I do is hard things. 75 hard. The live hard year challenge the Goggins four by four by 48 obstacle course races.
Getting into new workouts at new gyms. These all give me a physical [00:16:00] challenge or some that are more mental than physical, but they're giving me a challenge. and if we're not creating, I, I believe this to my core because I, I live it. I experience this day to day. If you're not creating resistance in your journey, it plateaus just like a muscle.
Muscles literally atrophy. They lose mass, they lose strength. If resistance is not being placed on them, you will go backwards when you're not being challenged anymore, in the same way that your muscle will atrophy when it's not being challenged. physically, your resilience, your ability to be consistent and follow through, no matter how hard circumstances are, that will wane if you're not challenging yourself.
And this doesn't mean every single day you're doing something super hard or even every month, but every once in a while. So if you're a mama listening to this, who is at that place, or almost at that place of consistency and you're still hanging around, there's a lot of goodness to [00:17:00] come both here on the podcast.
And for us to do together through the TFL of Mom Co. Now, honestly, I'm just being honest here cuz you're like my insider listening on podcasts, but I don't know exactly what that will be yet. And I don't know exactly what that will look like, but I, I personally am slated for a handful of challenges next year, like another round of 75 hard, I'm gonna do that.
Go. Four by four by 48 again in March. I'm probably gonna do a Spartan race. I might do a paddle board race in Florida. I don't know, it'd be so fun. Um, I'm doing plan on a half marathon in October and this 1000002nd challenge that I talked about yesterday that Royce inspired and in completing all of those, all the other areas of my life truly benefit.
They're inspired and I know that through all of those things that I take on next year, God's gonna show. Exactly what it is he wants to mold and do through [00:18:00] the tough love mom co. For you who feel like you're pretty consistent or you feel like you need that challenge in some sense, whatever it is, to get a little bit further in your journey because, , you're consistent.
Now, you know the consistency, challenges you could do with your eyes closed because it's just your habits. They're just part of who you are and you need that next level. And I feel very called to step into that, but I don't know exactly what it will look like yet. Um, you know, God's been directing this ship the whole time anyways, so I have no doubt whatever comes will be good.
And I'm very excited about it because honestly, when I look around the health and fitness. There's no physical challenges or like mental toughness challenges out there that are just for moms, and we need them. We want them, but we need them because we don't wanna plateau. We wanna set this example of, Hey, I can do hard things like I'm a [00:19:00] mom and I'm capable, and I want my kids to see that.
I want them to be able to believe in themselves because I believe in. And I, I believe that there is so much power in doing something physically hard to prove that to yourself. So your kids see that in you too. So whether you're a mama, just just stepping back into your health and fitness journey and wanting to do it the simple and sustainable way, or you're a mama who needs a challenge, the tough love mom Co.
Is the place for you. Like this is the community, the movement for you. You are a tough love. , you're honest with yourself. You prioritize your health because you know it's bigger than you. You know you're not a victim to motherhood, even though it's hard. A lot of the days you will not let that identity take over your life.
It's hard, yes, but you're gonna refuse to let the struggle define you. You refuse to compromise. There's a lot of moms out there with our mindset. Let's make sure they know [00:20:00] about this. Our mission as tough love moms, and lets link arms. I set a different standard within our families, within our communities, and within ourselves.
I hope that you are half as excited as me about what's to come. I want to thank you oh man, so much for being on this journey and this mission with me. Yes, we are a year in here, which is nuts. 365 days. What feels like it's flown by. But this is just the beginning. And how cool is it that you are here for the start of all of it?
Man, I love you. Really do. Big time. I hope there's a day that comes where we can do something, some tough love mom thing in person, and I can just hug every single one of you that listens. That's like my dream come true. , it'd be so awesome. But in the meantime, before, before I log off, I just wanna encourage.[00:21:00]
to remind yourself every day how capable you are, and I'll be here on the podcast to remind you of that too. I'll be in our Tough Love Mom squad to remind you of that in all the places that I have set out to serve you and in the ways I've set out to serve you, whether they're free or they're paid, or they're here or whatever, I want you to know how capable you are.
Don't forget that. I love you big time. Go get after it before you go. Thank you for spending this time with me on the Tough Love Mom podcast. If this episode encouraged you in any way, the number one way you can thank me is to leave a review letting me know how this show has impacted you. Then send this episode to another mom friend, or.
Take a screenshot, post it on social media and tag me so I can personally thank you for helping me on this journey to impact thousands of moms. I'm so grateful to be on this journey with you, sister. Until next time, get after it.
